My personal Game of the Year Awards 2018
Video games are great.
But what about the best ones?
The year 2018 is almost gone so I decided to share with you what I think are the best pc games of 2018. At first, I wanted to make a top 50 but with all the genres we have today, I thought that making a top 10 by category would be more practical for you since you can go directly where you want. Though, a real gamer would read the entire thing.
Right?
All the games I’m about to show you are great and I would love if you find some hidden gems from it. I wanted to share my own personal opinion and that’s the main reason why I’m here.
Just to let you know, early-access games are not included since that’s not a finished and released game.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft. The player can pick between a male or female mercenary, Alexios or Kassandra, and also have a romantic relationship. The game contains dialogue options and multiple endings. It’s time to become a true Spartan but you can kill or steal if you want. Yep.

In order to take down a corporate conspiracy about eliminating anger, fear, and depression from society, a bartender and a hacker will do the impossible to stop it because that’s brainwashing and not social welfare as claimed. #10 Donut County
Donut County is an indie and short story-based puzzle game developed by Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Interactive. You play as a small yet growing hole, yes a simple and ordinary hole. The idea is to swallow objects in order to increase the hole’s size. Meet cute and memorable characters that will make you laugh. Let’s show them how it’s done!

It takes place in a world of terror and violence where four factions will engage in a brutal war for dominance over the planet’s resources. Each faction is well thought out and offers a unique experience. Which one will you choose?

#2 Soulcalibur VI
Soulcalibur VI is a fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It takes place in the 16th century and revisits the events of the original Soulcalibur to reveal hidden truths. It features new battle mechanics and characters, a game we all know to be all-in in terms of fighting. Bring it on!
#3 Lethal League Blaze
Lethal League Blaze is a fighting-ball game developed and published by Team Reptile. You can play online with up to 4 players, a game to have plenty of fun with friends. Smooth gameplay, unique mechanics, funny characters and exceptional animations, that’s literally Lethal League Blaze. Do you want to play a match? I want to pick Latch.
#4 Touhou Hyouibana ~ The Antinomy of Common Flowers
Touhou Hyouibana ~ The Antinomy of Common Flowers is a 2D fighting game developed by Twilight Frontier and published by Team Shanghai Alice.
I have to say that the game is not fully in English but there are many fan-made patches to download, one of them is a full English translation.
Super cute characters and smooth gameplay. What? Waifus? Well, yeah.
#5 BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a 2D fighting game developed and published by Arc System Works. The game features characters from BlazBlue, Persona, Under Night In-Birth and RWBY series. Like any good fighting game, smooth gameplay, charming characters, and beautiful graphics are its core features. Just pick Jubei, he’s such a lovely cat.
#6 Shaolin vs Wutang
Shaolin vs Wutang is an indie fighting game developed by Jae Lee and published by Digital Tribe. It’s inspired by martial arts and classic kung fu films. What you can expect? Not flashy effects ni crazy combos but great realistic combat influenced by kung fu. The sounds and soundtrack are used and licensed from films. The 70' and 80' at its best!
#7 Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st]
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a 2D fighting game developed by French Bread and published by Arc System Works. Fight your way through the dangers of the Hollow Night with one of the 20 unique characters available. Intuitive and smooth controls to launch devastating and deadly combos with many different fighting styles. Are you up for a challenge?
#8 My Hero One’s Justice
My Hero One’s Justice is a 3D fighting game developed by Byking Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The popular Shonen Jump manga series comes to life and players can play as their favorite characters across many different and stunning environments. Of course, you can play as a villain too, why wouldn’t you? I want to try All Might first!
#9 Fighting Ex Layer
Fighting Ex Layer is a fighting game developed and published by Arika. It features 15 classic characters with beautiful new models. A series reborn emphasizing amazing gameplay and graphics. New mechanics are included but old ones are also present. The game has Gougi decks, which are used to add bonuses and enhancements during a match. Time for some combos!
#10 Brawlout
Brawlout is a fighting-platform game developed and published by Angry Mob Games. No defensive slow-paced battles, Brawlout is all about fast movements and aerobatics to take control over the fight. It includes 6 original characters and 2 popular indie characters, each one of them have unique play styles. It also has competitive tournaments! I’m P1, ok?

What do you think about my fighting list? I wanted to include Street Fighter and King of Fighters but both are just a collectors edition and you know I want to give new ones a chance to shine so I decided to include them in the honorable mentions.

What do you think about my simulation list? Many great games and spiritual successors of legendary games. Simulation games are so much fun and you can play the way you want. Some are more game-ish but others are more realistic and that’s what makes the simulation genre so satisfying.

A game enjoyable by anyone no matter the spoken language. Free of danger, frustration or death! Gris is a game to explore and have fun with unique abilities. Wait, what’s this dress made of?
#4 Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is a platform game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. It’s a collection of remasters of the first three titles. Our favorite marsupial is back once again! Simple things like spinning and jumping can’t be more satisfying, it’s one of those games that you fall in love with. A supreme classic.
#5 Dig or Die
Dig or Die is a platform-survival game developed and published by Gaddy Games. Build strong defenses to survive if you want to escape from a hostile and merciless planet you’re trapped in. What do you think about my platformer list? One of the most loved genres. Many different styles and this year was a good one for platformers, we have to thank the indie industry for becoming popular. I couldn’t leave behind any of the honorable mentions, sadly, I have to put lots of them there because the main list has only 10 numbers.

What do you think about my sports/racing list? I wanted to include a few titles that were VR but I thought that going for a more classic list would be better, maybe I could create a new list for VR in the future.

You find yourself lured to a remote island, where you must draw upon all your puzzle-solving ability to navigate a series of trials devised by a mysterious figure known only as “The Craftsman”. Exapunks is a puzzle game developed and published by Zachtronics. The game is set in 1997. You used to be a hacker but now you have the phage. You made a deal of one hack, one dose. Nothing to lose except your life. Read zines, write viruses, hack everything, slack off, take down your friends, and create your own puzzles. Time for hacking!

#8 Simmiland
Simmiland is a puzzle-strategy game developed and published by Sokpop Collective. You create a small civilization that can only influence indirectly by playing cards to the land, such as plants and minerals. Playing a plan on a grass biome tile will result in a wheat plant but playing a plant card somewhere else will also create something else. Time for experiments!
#9 Not Tonight
Not Tonight is a puzzle-simulation game developed by PanicBarn and published by No More Robots. In an alternative Britain where Brexit talks have collapsed, an extreme far-right government has taken power. Citizens of European heritage have been rounded up and exiled. You find yourself in the midst of a booming gig economy. Let’s work hard to return home!
#10 Dude, Stop
Dude, Stop is a puzzle game developed and published by Team HalfBeard. The main goal is to not follow the rules and make everybody hate you. Break it, abuse it, skip the tutorial, ignore tips and tricks in the loading menu and most importantly, mute the narrator! Stop reading, are you still reading? You’ve broken your first rule, you have talent!

What do you think about my puzzle list? Maybe some are not strictly puzzle games but have puzzle mechanics and that’s why I included them. Puzzle games are fun and very creative.

It’s my first time writing lists for the best games of the year but I think I did a good job and I’ll keep improving to write better content about games and about the video game industry in general.
