What does Sex mean in Religion?

When talking about sex in religion, it is considered to be taboo. Something that should never be discussed about and is forbidden. When coming to college perspectives change.

When talking about sex in Islam, there are a-lot of misconceptions. Islam is known a patriarchal religion in these Middle Eastern countries. When I was in Turkey, I visited Topkapi which was the Sultans Mehmoods palace. In Islam, men are allowed to marry up to 5 wives. Back in the day men would go to war and pass, therefore other men would marry the widow and take care of them At the palace, there was Harem which is a household for the wives of the kings and known as royal prestigious. There are many cultural practices that vary in different countries.

In many religions, sex is supposed to be taken very seriously. “Many Americans assume that religion should tell us how to think (and do) sex. There are material, sometimes dire, consequences to the perceived connection between sex and religion.” It was interesting to learn what is considered “good sex” and “bad sex”. Good sex would be considered as a heterosexual, monogamous, marital, and reproductive. Bad sex is considered homosexual, unmarried, and promiscuous. This was interesting to learn from this perspective because every individual is different and has different beliefs. Overtime, sex has changed in our modern society. “We now understand sexual identity as the core truth of our beings, the idea of a culture or time period that did not think of sex as identity can be hard for students to grasp.” This is very important as a historian is to learn the root cause of sexuality and religion.
