Use a Bigger Bottle

Recently I picked up a 40oz water bottle off Amazon. It’s incredible. Loose green tea leaves can be strained three times, and subsequently I can fit three large cups of tea in this thing. Not only that, but the wide-rim design basically forces me to take larger gulps than I would from a standard water bottle. This beautifully reflects Steven Covey’s Production/Production Capacity balance theory (P/PC). Since I started taking creatine (a supplement which tends to dry you out), I’ve set a goal of 1 gallon of liquids a day. The combination of the wide rim and the 40oz body act as my production capacity, allowing me to drink faster, while having the necessary volume to keep up with the pace. Thus, I am drinking more water than I ever have before, which allows me to hit my goal easier (that’s production).Refill this thing only three times and that’s basically a gallon!

If you find yourself not being as productive as you could be, you’re probably not striking the proper balance between P and PC. Basically, production is what specifically you’re looking to produce (gallon of water everyday), and production capacity is your ability to produce that thing (proper water bottle). If you’re looking to produce a certain amount of work within an allotted time, make sure you give attention to your PC. Distracted? Bring your work to the library, turn your phone off, meditate. Stressed? Eat healthier, get a massage, take deep breaths. In order to produce the quality/quantity that we desire, we need to be able to. You could just push through the symptoms, but sometimes it’s more productive to take a step back and fix what’s bothering you.
