is it me or is my pizza dough skin-like or is it just the bible

and inside my apple — next to the bed of seeds — is it me or a furry white spider

you are being facetious it’s you is it me yes you

is it you or the world as heavy as what atlas held before the shrug that you prompted is it

me or you that is the voice of the siren or is she always inside us and we are all victims and does that

make guilt not a thing or a thing like a stone that needs a doctor because

we don’t make that juice

is it me or is that actually not so good

what say you is it me or snakes pretending to be thoughts while we pretend to long for the garden

when we want to feel that punch of righteousness — almost

that is in the end you and i dodge all the bullets except the one that we swallow most often

when we try to decide is it you or me or the whole damned world

it may be — but ain’t it kind of irrelevant and that finger accusing the earth ain’t it the real

death — yes you

i can’t tell when you try to pretend we were not born millions of years ago and born into pieces if it’s me or

you are a negation cloaked in jesus and adam smith
